Typically, the product goes under a tremendous amount of stress and all the trace minerals that are present in sea salt have been stripped out, which is why the other salts have such a white, uniform appearance. They're just manufactured products, really. Our sea salts and some other sea salts, the French sea salts included, are completely clear. They have absolutely no additives and are taken straight from the ocean, evaporated by the sun and wind only. That's the reason these salts may have a little bit of an off color; they maintain their trace minerals. |

It's almost entirely processed salt, and even the products that claim to be made from "sea salt" are actually using a white, processed sea salt (not a full-spectrum brown or pink salt like you might find with Celtic sea salt, which is truly natural).
Grocery product makers are also adding various chemical additives to their "all natural" products, hiding them under innocent-sounding ingredients that don't raise red flags with consumers. Monosodium glutamate (MSG), for example, is a neurotoxic substance classified as an excitotoxin. |

Mike: Are you certified organic?
Heine: We're certified organic by BioGrow New Zealand, which is accredited by IFOAM International.
IFOAM rep: The IFOAM accreditation of BioGrow probably has international recognition or recognition in the States. BioGrow New Zealand is the accrediting body in New Zealand, and it is IFOAM certified. IFOAM is The International Federation of Organic Agricultural Movements. It is a third party agreement between the USDA and BioGrow New Zealand. |

A topical scrub will help remove dead skin cells on the surface and minimally effect blackheads, but a leave-on BHA (salicylic acid) product gets to the root of the problem because it can penetrate the pore lining where blackheads develop. The sea salt is just a gimmick; it is not the solution for stubborn blackheads. This is an overall good scrub for normal to oily skin.

Even many salts labeled "sea salt" are washed or boiled, which removes minerals and trace elements, rendering them toxic to the human body. Any salt that has been heated in this manner is converted to a covalent form, which is difficult for the body to assimilate. Celtic sea salt and Himalayan salt are the most energetic and complete salts we have found. Research indicates that sea salt is used by the body for mineralization, hydration, and to restore a healthy sodium-potassium balance for the lymph, blood, and extracellular fluid. |

You can evaporate seawater in flat trays exposed to sunlight to make sea salt. This typically has about ten times more magnesium and trace minerals than commercial sea salt. Commercial unrefined sea salt is salt that has been crystallized in fractions, and it contains very little of the trace minerals originally in seawater. Highest in magnesium and trace minerals is the brine out of which the sea salt has been crystallized. It is sometimes available in liquid form as "sea-minerals" and is highly recommended as a mineral supplement. |

| Natural salts (such as "sea salt") are now being marketed as a replacement to table salt but most of these salts are also partially refined. On the other hand, Himalayan Salt or Celtic sea salt are living substances, produced with ancient drying methods, and contain the vital minerals we need. Our body fluids closely resemble the structure of seawater, so these salts are quite beneficial for balancing internal fluids. I personally recommend Himalayan Crystal Salt™ because it contains all the elements and minerals your body needs without any of the toxins found in common table salt.

The chemical breakdown of sea salt was first reported by a modest Swedish druggist, Carl Scheele, who went on to become recognized as one of the great tesearch chemists of his age. Scheele performed a series of experiments to try to understand better the behavior of "marine," or "muriatic," acid. Muriatic acid is still a common term for hydrochloric acid. In another form, the acid was known by an even older name, aqua regia (regis), or, literally, "royal water." Aqua regia is a mixture of hydrochloric and nitric acids, which alchemists valued highly. |

Mined from natural salt deposits, these salts contain an array of health-promoting minerals (including trace minerals), far beyond the sodium and chloride found in typical processed salt. Turnstyle Beach Head sea salt Spray ($10for 6.8 ounces). This non-sticky, water-based spray contains magnesium sulfate (commonly known as Epsom salts) along with slip agent, sea salt, film-forming agent, preservatives, and fragrance. The salt can help rough up the cuticle of the hair. You can enhance that further by hand or heat styling, as you're directed to do on the label, but that is not a great thing for hair in the long run.

When you stop consuming processed salt and start consuming full spectrum salt—that is, sea salt or the cave salt—then you will not only boost your mineralization, you will also tend to notice a marked improvement in your blood pressure.

My own blood pressure is 105/60 and I eat plenty of salt. It's just full-spectrum cave salt or sea salt. I rarely eat processed salt or any sort of salty snacks, junk foods or restaurant foods. Most restaurants serve food that's overly salty—especially the soups. |
